Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love the way writing is always a partnership between you and the thing you’re writing. It’s not mechanical, it’s a relationship. The writing has its own soul, and it communicates. You think you know what you want to say, but as soon as you start you’re surprised. The writing takes you in directions you don’t expect. It has its own truth: when you use a word or write a sentence that resonates with that truth, you know it; but if it doesn’t, you know that, too, and you’re going to have to change it.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Are you kidding me?! Life. Life. Life!
