Rob Kircher

While growing up, I knew I had a love for the arts and self-expression. But like most young people, I wasn't sure how to apply it...or what I wanted to be. My first job was in broadcasting as a radio announcer. Later, I became a news writer in Manhattan which led to a management position at a network television affiliate. Driven further, I founded a New York-based brand marketing firm and later opened additional offices in the US and Panama. It was in Panama where I became a columnist for a Spanish-American newspaper. Later, I wrote the screenplay and co-produced my first feature film. Along the way, I developed scores of marketing/advertising campaigns, produced hundreds of client commercials and videos which fueled my additional interest in producing television programming, writing screenplays, fiction and non-fiction literature. What I learned through those many experiences was that I have an enormous dislike for "sameness" and a never-ending desire to do things "differently"..the quintessential soul of writing and marketing. It's the finely weaved fabric that ignites emotions and charges impulses...defining who and what we are during our short and fragile existence.

Smashwords Interview

What are your five favorite books, and why?
I have struggled with dyslexia throughout my life. In my case, seeing the order of letters of a word in a scrambled manner. So, reading for me was always a difficult and slow process...having to translate each word from the foreign language of dyslexia into one that is distinguishable and understood. Until now, few people were aware of my learning disability, because I've tried so hard to disguise it. Even now, I think they would find it hard to believe in light of my career successes as a brand marketer, writer and former announcer...where reading is such an essential requirement. As one can imagine, it was not an easy road to travel or course to navigate. I survived by rote memorization and confident performances. The only books I've ever read were school books and the occasional best seller. It's too cumbersome and frustrating. So...I write, instead of reading...deriving my stories from life experiences opposed to other's written interpretations. For some reason, I don't have the same difficulty when writing as I do when reading.
When did you first start writing?
In sixth grade, when an aging and strict Catholic nun saw something...beyond my dyslexia. Most kids thought she was a mean witch. I learned to look at people differently.
