- Masters at Arms (Introduction to the Rescue Me Saga)
on Dec. 05, 2012
Masters at Arms is a collection of vignettes that acts as a prequel to the Rescue Me series. Kallypso Masters thoroughly develops the backstory for the main characters for her future novels: Adam Montague, Marc d’Alessio, and Damian Orlando. Intricately interweaving their growing friendship while in the armed forces, the events that scarred and bonded them together, and their meetings with the women who will bring them to their knees, Kallypso creates intense anticipation for her future novels where her characters will find their happily ever after. Upon finishing Master at Arms, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Nobody’s Angel, Marc’s story.
- Love's Forbidden Flower
on Dec. 10, 2013
Love’s Forbidden Flower is a stunning and mesmerizing debut from Diane Rinella. The author has an incredibly graceful writing style—one that just pulled me right into her multilayered plot with strong well-drawn characters.
Finding your soul mate should be cause for celebration. But, what happens when your soul mate is your older brother? Beautifully told through a first person point of view, the author introduces us to Lily, a high school student. Lily is a captivating character whose complex feelings for her brother, despite being socially unacceptable, just drew me to her character. After Donovan is especially cruel to her, Lily demonstrates exceptional strength in starting her life over. As one relationship ends, the possibility of new relationship starts when Lily meets Christopher, the love of her life. Christopher takes Lily on dates, spending quality time getting to know her as they fall in love. Thanks to the intricacies of the various relationships in this story, it is hard to figure out which couple to cheer for: Lily and Donovan or Lily and Christopher.
Honesty, I wasn’t sure what to think about reading a love story that contains a sibling romance. As a reader though, I do like to push my comfort zone and not once did I feel uncomfortable while reading this story. Love’s Forbidden Flower turned out to be so much more than what I was expecting. Rinella’s beautiful prose, memorable characters, plot twists, and happy-for-now ending make Love’s Forbidden Flower an emotionally gripping, page-turning romance that leaves you wanting to revisit these characters again and again.
- Time's Forbidden Flower
on Dec. 10, 2013
Diane Rinella fans will be completely captivated by Time’s Forbidden Flower, the final addition to the Forbidden Flower series. Rinella’s narrative is an emotional tale with absorbing characters who have an intriguing story to tell.
Lily Eccles blossoms into a beautiful young woman as she balances her career, her husband’s career, and their children. At the same time, Christopher Eccles builds up his music career, even though it keeps him from being at home from time to time when the band goes on tour. On the other hand, Donovan, Lily’s brother, successfully completes therapy and then goes on to become a psychologist. Rinella does a masterful job of maturing these characters as they age, making these characters even more real. Lily’s married life with Christopher gets more complicated when Donovan and his wife move into the area because feelings the siblings have put on the back burner resurface. As we discover, Lily, Donovan, and Christopher are completely interconnected in this life and in previous ones too, which adds incredible depth to this unique love triangle. Rinella exquisitely develops multiple interrelated story lines, containing heart-wrenching plot twists, to go along with the jaw dropping ones that keep the reader fully engaged.
After reading the first two books in this series, I couldn’t wait to read this installment because I was anxious to see how the love triangle would play out, and I wasn’t disappointed. Rinella ties up this original story line, managing to blend the happy with the sad (keep tissues handy) to create a thoroughly satisfying conclusion. Time’s Forbidden Flower is a well-executed, dramatic ending to the Forbidden Flower series.
