Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I have such a horrible memory and I've read so much since I was a kid. So let's start with what had the most impact on me. Unfortunately it isn't some deep, intellectual story, with a lot of difficult language or anything like that. I used to read a lot or urban fiction/african american erotica as a kid, especially if it was written by Zane. She wrote this one book titled, Addiction, which was about some pretty heavy shit. The main character was a sex addicted wife who found herself in an exotic affair with artists, a woman, and a dangerous bad boy. First, I had never read anything so vividly about adultery, bicuriosity, and (spoiler alert) psycho jealous lovers who reveal their murderous past to you when they feel you slipping away. I believe it's what influenced me to maintain a certain sense of shock value in my writing. Now I must include scandal in everything.
How do you approach cover design?
Since I'm independent and a cover designer is still out of my budget for the time being, I start with pictures of myself or that I've taken to steer clear of any possible legal issues. I like to think about the title and the whole point of the story. I want the cover design to convey main message in some way. However sometimes that isn't always easy so I try to think of clever ways to include something in the title with the cover art. All of my stories are about love, lust, and/or heartbreak in someway so I like to use the color pink a lot. Pink is a color of romance, femininity, sweetness, unconditional love, nurturing, and affection, just to name a few. My stories involve these themes in some form, always. Whether love was lost, or sexuality was discovered.

The Car Show is a steamy short about what happens when you get stuck in traffic and end up with the best view in town. Bumper-tobumper traffic after a long day of work is usually the worst. You're waiting for, forever, not to mention, there isn't much to keep you entertained. Luckily for this young lady, her time in traffic just got a lot more...titillating.
