An entertaining and enjoyable read. Graham's Ustick has style and smarts redolent of the Golden Age of detectives, with laconic wit and gentlemanly charm to boot. The story is compelling, with twists and turns aplenty, and the characters are interesting and sympathetic -- especially Ignacio Hernandez, the put-upon gubernatorial candidate.
I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in detective stories, old and new. It's a good read, and I look forward to Ustick's next adventure.

A brilliant fantasy novel. Deserves far more attention.

Simply brilliant. I did not think the first book in the series could be improved upon, but this sequel presents just the right balance of novelty and familiarity. I am now struggling to keep myself from devouring books 3 and 4, knowing they are a limited resource.
I remain unable to believe this series is not cited among the very, very best fantasy. Rosemary Kirstein ought to be lauded, celebrated, venerated.
