Keith Soares

Biography

From an early age, Keith has been fascinated by storytelling. This has been expressed in a number of ways: through art, music, even computer programming for game development. Ideas for various works of fiction have been rolling around in his head for a long time.

His interests and influences range from authors like Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, George R. R. Martin, and Stephen Donaldson, to popular fiction and music. Having worked for years as a graphic designer, then art director and project leader for creative works and games, Keith is extremely influenced by visuals and visual thinking. In his work, he tries to maintain a sense of realness amid the surreal, and evoke images in the minds of readers. The Oasis of Filth is Keith’s first published book, in three parts: The Oasis of Filth (1), The Hopeless Pastures (2), and From Blood Reborn (3).

Keith graduated from the University of Maryland College Park, and lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife and two children. Along with his wife, he runs a web, mobile and app development studio.

Smashwords Interview

What do you read for pleasure?
I read a variety of sci fi, horror, and fantasy, mostly. I'm currently trying to read as many of the Hugo-nominated books as possible, since I'll be voting on the Hugos and attending the Hugo Awards ceremony at Loncon3 this year.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I either read on my Android phone or an iPad 2 that sits forever at the side of my bed. Either way, I use the Kindle app for everything, so it's always in sync no matter which device I pick up. I work on a lot of mobile device in my 'day job' so I have a somewhat ridiculous number of iPods, iPads, iPhones, Android phones, Android tablets, Kindles, Nooks, and Windows Surface tablets to choose from. Glad the Kindle app is universally available.
