Kamal T. Saleem

Biography

I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY the fourth child of six siblings. I attended elementary school PS67, Sands Jr. High School, Art & Design H.S. and later graduated from Medgar Evers College. I worked as a Community Center Director and achieved the Director of the Year award from P.A.S.E., a professional organization for after school educators.
When children entered our center I explained to them that this is a magical place where the negative things in your lives will be left outside and when you enter this Community Center you enter the portal to the land of ‘I can be anything I want to be.’ I believe in the adages which we often repeated, ‘Each one teach one’ and ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ I emphasized to the youth that if you waste ten or twenty years of your life that is lost time you can never reclaim. If you believe you only live once make this life count.
In the center the youth and teens were taught Chess, Music, Short Story Writing, Ceramics and Art. Along with the help of my staff our children won Borough-Wide and Citywide championships in Chess, Track & Field, Basketball, Soccer, Oil Painting and our After-school R&B band ages 7-12 performed at various venues in N.Y.C. With their parental guidance many of these youth went on to college and one I recently ran into had become an Architectural Engineer.
The saying ‘live everyday like it is your last’, is infused in my very being. When I wake up each morning above ground I thank the creator for the gift of life. I am passionate about oil painting and writing. In my spare time I enjoy dabbling in Song Writing, philosophy, learning about different religions, cultures and I remain in awe of technology and its positive potential. This deep routed sense of optimism is what drove me to write this book, ‘Oracle and the Paradigm of Seekdom’. I am currently working on the action adventure audio book for this story which will be available in the later part of 2016.
I owe my diligence and sense of purpose to my mother who instilled in me words of wisdom, “Don’t use the worst examples of what people do as an example for you to follow" and "Be your own person and if you fail at something use it as a learning experience.” When given the opportunity I endeavor to pass positivity forward.
