When did you first start writing?
I've been writing as long as I can remember. My mom still has my very first 'book' carefully preserved from when I wrote it in first grade. It was about kittens. I wrote a novel on the first computer my parents gave me for high school. I might still have it on a disk somewhere--a 3.5" floppy. Hmm... I started another novel in college that never went anywhere either. My current series began as an innocuous character backstory more than ten years ago. There's always some story in my head. In the breaks I've taken from the latest volume of my Grimoire series, I've written four short stores (and counting), and ideas keep coming to me for the next series I want to write. So, I've been writing fiction for as long as I've been writing.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My family and friends have been incredibly supportive, and it was because of their encouragement that I finally took the leap to actually pursue publishing my writing. I had considered publishing in the past, but the traditional print route seemed so daunting and risk-averse. I just wanted to get my writing out where people might enjoy it, and I'm fortunate to have avenues like Smashwords to do that.
