Leah Ross

Biography

Leah Ross is a freelance writer and graphic designer with a penchant for loud electronic dance music and sappy love stories. She has been writing and creating art for most of her life, with works published by the International Library of Poetry and NewType USA. She believes that love should be unconventional, rules are negotiable, and age is nothing but a number.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I've been writing as long as I can remember. My mom still has my very first 'book' carefully preserved from when I wrote it in first grade. It was about kittens. I wrote a novel on the first computer my parents gave me for high school. I might still have it on a disk somewhere--a 3.5" floppy. Hmm... I started another novel in college that never went anywhere either. My current series began as an innocuous character backstory more than ten years ago. There's always some story in my head. In the breaks I've taken from the latest volume of my Grimoire series, I've written four short stores (and counting), and ideas keep coming to me for the next series I want to write. So, I've been writing fiction for as long as I've been writing.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My family and friends have been incredibly supportive, and it was because of their encouragement that I finally took the leap to actually pursue publishing my writing. I had considered publishing in the past, but the traditional print route seemed so daunting and risk-averse. I just wanted to get my writing out where people might enjoy it, and I'm fortunate to have avenues like Smashwords to do that.

Knights of Sehaann
Sehaann is a land of chivalry and honor, of nobility and royalty. It’s also rife with political machinations and status achieved at any cost. To live among the Enuldesh is to manipulate your way to the top or get kicked into the gutter. There is precious little middle ground. As one of the most powerful magical races of Syndraya, the Enuldesh command a level of respect not enjoyed by many other beings. With power comes corruption, though, and stories of Enuldesh coups are legendary. Peace is a tenuous prospect, at best, and the residents of Sehaann are always preparing for the next political upheaval. Only one has the ability to bring lasting peace. The one who was never supposed to take the throne. The outsider among his own people. The reluctant heir to his father’s distinguished legacy. He must lead his warriors and his people through the maze of treachery and deceit or civil war will destroy them all. Even among the prestigious Knights of Sehaann, though, there are forces working against the crown. Nothing is safe. Nothing is sacred. And absolutely everyone has everything to lose.
Firebend Chronicles
On the edge of a world decimated by its own sun, frontier towns thrive, defying misconception. The Fringe is supposedly an irradiated wasteland. So most of the world’s population lives in sheltered ignorance in overcrowded dome cities where it’s safe. Fringers are seen as crazy, lacking the sense to avoid the toxic levels of solar radiation plaguing the world’s open spaces. But the Fringe pioneers are not as unbalanced as they seem. They’ve adapted, repurposing the old to make the most of their limited resources. Theirs is a world of invention and innovation. It’s also a perilous playground for brazen opportunists. Domers live in comfortable predictability, protected from the unforgiving outside world. They have everything they need in a controlled environment where societal oppression has all but been eradicated. It’s far from utopia, though. There are plenty, barely surviving, who desperately want to escape but can’t. Each society is isolated, knowing the other exists, yet casting it off as lesser, wrong. But some are not content with labels, challenging those beliefs. They’re the ones striving for a better world, and only they can change it.
Legend of the Grimoire
Legend says that there’s a treasure hoard larger and more valuable than any ever seen on Syndraya. Legend says that it’s the wealth of an extinct race, hidden away and enchanted so that no one can find it. Legend says that no one is worthy of claiming such a prize, that the treasure is cursed, that it’s destined to remain hidden forever. Legend is about to get a kick in the teeth. Follow the epic adventure of the Annali pirate ship Aeon Grimoire as her captain and crew battle treachery, otherworldly forces, malevolent magic, their own demons, and the vagaries of fate and love in their pursuit of immortality and eternal glory. Every limit will be tested. Every enemy will be out for blood. Every single rule will be broken. Whether the wind is at their backs or lashing at their faces, the ambition and determination of the crew members of the Aeon Grimoire is steadfast, weatherproof. Their passion unites them in their quest and their loyalty to each other will see them through the rough waters ahead. Only through courage and perseverance will they find success. They better hope that death doesn’t find them first.
