Lee A Jackson

Biography

The Beginning: I began writing in my mid to late teens, sequestered away in my bedroom in rural south west England. The writing was borne out of a need to express myself and to communicate with the world, something I was not good at doing verbally. It became an outlet for me and my writing grew with me through the years.

The Middle: The writing stuck with me, and the style and nature of my writing naturally evolved as my life changed. Longer stories started coming along, and I even went through a period of planning and organising stories out before actually writing anything. That flew in the face of the disorganised nature where I would just write everything in one go from a single thought such as a title or a name. Still through a lack of self belief, everything was kept close to my chest. That and habitual procrastination.

The End: For the longest time I had a fear of being forgotten and the way I figured to combat that would be to have a published book sat on a library shelf somewhere. I would have indelibly left my mark somewhere, long after I passed. That was a motivation in the back of my subconscious mind somewhere and still to this day, the enduring nature of my words in print following my end, is comforting.

Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting into the flow of an idea stream is definitely one of the most enjoyable moments of writing. There are frustrating points of the writing process, such as a blank mind and noticing a loose end that wasn't quite tied up, but when everything clicks into place and flows, then it is a wonderful process that can take you away. That and completing the final edit.
What do your fans mean to you?
If there is no-one there to read your work at the end of the day, then it falls a bit flat. Writing can be a personal experience, digging deep into yourself to pull out a character or motivation, but ultimately it is about the end reader. Anyone who positively enjoys your work (a fan) is a great support system and an inspiration in and of itself to continue writing.

Smashwords book reviews by Lee A Jackson

  • All That Glitters on Feb. 24, 2015

Really enjoyed this short story. Found myself getting immersed in it, and loved where she was worried that she wouldn't be able to get what she wants, because very often we don't really need things as badly as when we can't have them. Very nice read, it got me thinking about materialism and appearance. Thank you.
  • The Jackdaw on April 02, 2015

Fantastic read. Loved it, reminded me of sitting down watching an old twilight zone. Flowed very well, kept me hooked and I just had to keep going going till the end. To date the best read on smashwords that I have had.
  • Noah Quince on June 30, 2015

Noah Quince. One of the most unique characters that you will ever stumble across. It’s a brilliant piece of craftsmanship to create someone who you despise while at the same time find yourself rooting for. The way that Noah stumbles along in his own disturbed way is brilliantly balanced out by the other main characters in the book, who even with their own nuances, just by nature make Noah seem even more of an oddball. Noah Quince is engaging, you will race to turn the next page to see where the unexpected takes you. An absolute must-read of a Smashwords publication and trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Hats off the author because this is a disturbed, creeped-out journey-and-a-half which she takes you on. Brilliant.
  • Deceive the Paradox on Oct. 01, 2015

Great read, I raced through it in no time. A very sharp, understandable, gripping and intelligent piece of work that kept pulling and twisting me through it.
  • The Awakening of Adam Capello on Dec. 26, 2015

Put down whatever you are reading and pick up this book. What an absolute gem of a read from a place of sheer brilliance. Right from the get-go Adam is so relatable and engaging and you just want more and more from each page. The whole subject matter is thought-provoking and it has you tumbling around thoughts in your head, making you ask yourself who you really are, what your place in the world is and just who those around you are. It's brilliantly conceptual, yet simple and one of the most un-put-downable reads I have come across in a very, very long time. Bravo.
  • The Whimsyless Tale Of Firstname Lastname on Jan. 03, 2017

This was a cool little read. I love dark humour stuff and there was enough in this one to make me raise a chuckle more than once. A simple concept and written very well. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Thanks!
