Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to create something is an amazing feeling, whether you're a writer, painter, sculpter, etc. You create and bring to life something from your imagination. It can feel like a roller coaster ride while you're working on your project but in the end, you've created something unique, an expression of you, and you hope that people will like and appreciate it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I find many traditional publishers require more conformity to a set formula or their preferences as opposed to finding out what readers are really interested in. Indie authorship allows me to fully express my creativity, without deadlines, and allows me free reign over my product. The draw back is that it's like running your own business, so you are responsible for all editing, marketing, and distribution. That being said, I believe that readers -while they may have their favorites- prefer to see the authors real voice, something unique, and not always the same set pattern and formula.

A dark, twisted story with a surprising ending. Cliff is a smart young man with a painful past that haunts every aspect of his life. He feels hopeless until he meets Liz, a beautiful spunky woman with her own unusual twists and kinks, but with a loving nature and family that has Cliff feeling he might belong for the first time. For Cliff, it's a journey in a lesson of love and forgiveness, hopefully he can let go of the past and embrace something beautiful that he could never even fathom. It's not quite what I expected, but an interesting, unique story. Once I started I had to finish. It would be interesting to see what happens to Liz, and see how Jim and Beth came to be. Hopefully I will have the privilege of reading other works by Mr. Stephens in the future.
