Very good "prequel" to the series. To the point where I almost recommend starting the read here. This is a sweet werewolf romance. In fact the entire series is rather PG as compared to your typical R rated werewolf romances. Patience and self control are recurring themes in her books. A fact which I appreciate, being kinda old school myself. Although the 15 year old Charlene comes across as slightly annoying, dictator-ish, and unrealistically capable(a sheltered 15 year old suddenly with knowledge of construction, primitive cooking, and camp management?), I grew to love her, just like I did with her other sisters. I kind of complained in book 3 about how the relationships weren't balanced well, but here it wasn't so bad. Mary and her Mate were adorable! Anyways, this book added a lot of information to the series. And that final scene? Wow. It totally made up for any annoyance I felt for Charlene throughout the book. I read all the books available in the series in 2 days. And this is from a girl that NEVER spends on ebooks! Try out the first free ebook in the series Hope(less) if you want to see her writing style, then I recommend reading this one if you liked it!

Book 2 of the series And Melissa Haag's writing skill had improved so much from her first book! Everything has seemed to mature as well. She handles more serious themes like death and harassment but with the same innocence and delicacy that I truly enjoyed from the first book. This is almost a story on its own. You can start the series here and still be able to follow along. The first book, Hope (less) was definitely worth the read though. Just saying. Here in Mis (fortune), we delve more into werewolves and Urbats. If the first book was 'what if a werewolf was among us in our normal lives?', this book is more of 'what is it like to be a normal modern human among werewolves? ' The romance was adorable. The action was improved. The heroine is a serious but amazingly strong woman. The love interest reminds me of those cowboys with a big heart. Great read. Great series!

Woot! This totally got serious! Un (wise), is the most exciting, action-packed, and dramatic book in the series so far! (From the time of this review only the first 4 books were published) Bethie is so snarky, stubborn, and straight-to-the-point. It's wonderful! She has a good heart and sacrifices for what she believes in, but circumstances are against her. She had the toughest gift among the other Judgements. This made her tough as well and we see her fight with all her might! Boy, can she fight! The romance here is different from the others. It's almost a comedy (in the best way of course). Bethi does romance like everything else in her life, unpredictably. I was continually guessing over what was going to happen next throughout the book. I highly recommend this book and the series!
  • Clay's Hope on April 26, 2016

Adorable! For me, Clay's Hope is the most significant in the Companion series simply because of his character. He is the most mysterious of all the leading men and Hope(less) really just brought up more questions than it answered. Reading this book was great. And it's free! ( as of time of review) I fell further in love with Clay and I understood his reasoning behind his actions, like the dirty sneakers lol If you want to read this book, I recommend reading Hope (less) too. They are both free, so you've got nothing to lose and so much joy to gain!
