Why did you write Krista Pompey?
After reading and watching a number of children’s books and movies with my own children, I had the feeling that something was missing in the shows and books we were watching. This feeling of dissatisfaction rose and with it an idea slowly grew of a story. I got a basic idea and then started typing. The result is Krista Pompey, The Becoming, the first book of the trilogy.
How did you become interested in the topic?
I’ve always had an interest in something magical or phenomenal. Creating the young girl, Krista, was part of this process. Krista came alive and was special and mystical. She fascinated me and as I wrote I got to know her better and better. Then, I was hooked and couldn't stop writing until the first book was finished.
This is the story of a black, eleven-year-old girl, Krista Pompey, who moves from Germany to New York and is feeling displaced and lonely in her new environment. During an outing with her family, Krista has an experience that awakens within her hidden potentials that transform the world around her.
