This is a lovely book. The central focus is friendship, and the way Keeley's friends care for him in his illness and in danger. It is refreshing that the fact that he is gay, whilst pertinent to the story, is never an issue for any of the friends or family who love him. The twists and turns of his health and the problems dogging his company are intriguing; underlying the solutions to both is the author's acute observation of psychology - the psychology of villains as well as heroes and friends. The New Zealand countryside and the German towns are beautifully described and form a fascinating background to the action. The meaning of the title is multi-layered and gradually becomes clear. A great first novel and I hope to read more by this author.

This was a delightful story. I enjoyed the romance element and was also fascinated by the medical emergency that turned the day upside down. Beautifully written, as usual in books from this author!
