Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I am a life-long San Diego resident, which means there is a certain amount of laid-back Southern Californian in me. I started surfing when I was 13 years old and still find time on the beach as the most refreshing place to be in nature. The influence this has on my writing is I tend to be casual and relaxed about some of the things I do. The exception would be in ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ! My desire is to see people awaken to the love God has for them and to walk in relationship with the one who made them!
When did you first start writing?
I have enjoyed writing since I was in high school. It allows for an expression when things are difficult to say or should be concrete for others. Throughout my journey with Christ, I have found the need and passion for writing outlines and later more detailed presentations of key truths.
I am also a published author in academic journals and conference proceedings as an educator. The drive to write effectively is integral to my course development work as well. In the creation of courses as well as lessons, I want the navigation from point to point to be easy with the content is each area clear for the reader.
This publication is the refinement of over 15 years of working in the area of ministry commonly referred to as recovery. As a pastor, I have worked with hundreds of individuals, families, and organizations in the battle against alcohol and drug addiction as well as other idols of the heart. Any type of addiction can become the idol of the heart that separates us from a relationship with God.
