Jay Blaes

Jay Blaes is a lifelong Retail Manager who is trying to escape the Retailpocalypse through the written word. Growing up, inspired by mythology and the great movies of the 1980’s and 90’s, he began writing short stories and comics for fun. After more than 20 years of toying around with this hobby, he has finally seen a completed work (Reign of Chaos-Forshanaland) in print. He seeks to become a career author with many more stories to tell, within and outside of the Reign of Chaos world.

Jay is an old-school video gamer who prefers Nintendo and Super Nintendo games over all of this 3-D mess out there now. He is also an avid fan of the Star Wars Expanded Universe (Disney may have “erased” it all and started its own line of fan fiction, but he will never forget the TRUE universe!).

He lives near Nashville, Tennessee with his B-E-A-Utiful wife Sabrina and two heathen children, Jayson and Alexis.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was about 13. A friend had introduced me to comic books, primarily Spawn (which was BIG back in the 90s), and it wasn't long before I started writing and (horribly) drawing my own comics. Then, as a fan of the Star Wars movies (the Original Trilogy, the Prequels hadn't been announced yet), I got into the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The stories told, and the writers who put them down on paper, only encouraged me to write even more.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Reign of Chaos-Forshanaland (my first book) is my attempt to recreate the feeling I got from watching movies such as the original Conan movies (love Arnold!) and the classic Clash of the Titans. I have always loved mythology and wanted to write stories about gods and monster and heroic feats, with lots of action. I found myself bogged down by existing mythologies so I decided to create my own. I tried to mimic the feel of these myths by having similar traits, or names/words that sounded close to the regions the myths originated.
