Bias alert: the author is a longtime friend. However, if I was only reading her trilogy out of duty, I wouldn't bother to write a review. I was enthralled by this book, as I was by the first book in the trilogy. And this is not my normal leisure reading genre, which just underlines how well these books are written. The characters are compelling and the plot is a page-turner!
I'm writing this while I'm still reading the novel. I'm absolutely loving it--couldn't wait to find out what happened to Herbert West after volume 1. As a person with many gay male friends, I think that side of Herbert's charcter and the interactions of other characters with his homosexuality, is very well handled.
Normally I don't read supernatural novels. Fantasy yes; supernatural thrillers, no. But I am totally addicted to this trilogy. I couldn't put it down when I first read it and I couldn't wait for the next volume. That's a mark of how well it's written and how compelling the characters are.
