Lu Erickson

I love stories. Suspense, mystery, romance, drama, comedy--I love them all. Film or book, give me a good yarn over reality any day. My only requirement is that the characters catch my interest and don't let go.

In writing my own stories, it's human nature that intrigues me more than anything. What makes a person do what they do? Say what they say? Why do they try so hard to do the right thing, but sometimes, even with the best intentions, fail terribly?

Friendships also figure prominently in my stories because my own friendships have meant so much to me over the years. Whether light-hearted or gritty, in the end it's the relationships between people that make a tale worth telling.

I live in Sacramento, CA, with my husband Pete and Rosie the dog (my faithful writing companion).

Smashwords Interview

What are you working on next?
Right now I'm very excited to be doing the finishing edits on a psychological drama called Thieves. Here's the short synopsis:

To the Sacramento art community, the handsome Albert Metzer is the successful owner of a cutting edge gallery. But beneath Albert's sophisticated exterior lies a broken, tortured mind held captive by his abusive father's dying wish.

With his inheritance, Albert buys a timeworn Italianate building in downtown Sacramento that hides a secret—a portion of the city's abandoned underground lies beneath its floorboards. Albert converts the underground space into a hidden gallery and enlists Jerry, a mentally compromised homeless vet, to commit a crime that shakes the art world from San Francisco to New York.

But soon the threads of Albert's perfect crime begin to unravel. Albert's unfounded doubts about Jerry's loyalty, a conniving and manipulative girlfriend, and the dogged pursuit by a criminal investigator threaten Albert's sanity. To what lengths will he go to fulfill promises made to the dead?
What do your readers mean to you?
Writing a story is only half of the process. When someone reads the story, they complete the creative circle. It gives me so much joy when someone tells me that something I've written has made them laugh or cry or touched them in some way. When I published Where the Hell is Myra Atkins?, of course my friends and family stepped up to read it (they had to because they love me). But when a person whom I didn't know told me they loved the book. I hugged them! I couldn't stop myself. She did look a little taken aback, and I've since tried to rein in my show of gratitude in subsequent encounters so as not to frighten my readers.
