Luke Wakefield

Thanks for visiting my Smashwords page! I have been writing poetry for the past twenty years. Because I lean toward the formal in my writing, Romantics like Byron, Shelley, and Keats have always resonated with me. At the same time, my fondness for modern poets like e. e. cummings, Mary Oliver, and W. B. Yeats prevents me from becoming too great a stickler.

I am fascinated by the social and cognitive implications of our use of metaphor in everyday speech. Which is to say, the ways in which the words we use affect our thoughts and actions. So a lot of my non-poetic writing has to do with the ins and outs of the English language. If you visit my blog, you can read more about that.

Any feedback is appreciated. Look me up on Twitter if you want to connect.

Starlight and Shipping Wax is the first collection from poet Luke Wakefield. Dying stars, moonlit waves, awkward teenagers, and undead hordes all have a place in his work, encapsulated in a variety of forms and styles. Simultaneously accessible and evocative, these poems cover a landscape of emotion, from joy to grief, arrogance to despair, heartache to hope.
