When did you begin writing?
Seriously, 1984. I had articles in magazines and such before.
You write about a lot of things. What is your background?
I've done everything from running a concession stand to managing a junkyard, from commercial fishing to high steel worker, and was a professional musician from '67 - 74. I was with some big names, such as Janis Joplin. I've traveled a lot and have lived is several countries.
Clint receives a call from The Darien. There has been a killing the police there wanted to call a death from natural causes, but Dave said to call him. Natural causes? The drug people who the victim was messed up with? Execution is a natural cause!
A man in a restaurant says he will go after the corrupt crooks in the area. They are powerful. He couldn't be serious. He replies that he is dead serious. Then those crooks start getting murdered. Clint investigates when an Indio is shot. What is it really about, and what does the museum have to do with it?
A man is learning a lot about history from an old pirate. The man is killed. It turns out he was a young man, a great grandson of the pirate. Investigating the murder turns up an old pirate ship and a huge treasure. Can Clint find a way to keep that for the Ngobe? He will have to fight the politics here and elsewhere to do it!
Clint is in Buabidi with family. A body is found with no cause of death. It is in the Valley Where Death Waits. According to legend, no evil person or person not of the Ngobe will live there. Then there is another. A psychic investigator Clint knew from another case joins him. Was this actually death from the spirits of the ancients or murder? Or both.
Clint is visiting a friend near Mali when a young woman comes through gathering flowers for her mother's grave. She is found strangled in a shallow grave with some of those flowers on it. Clint investigates to find she was a nymphomaniac and knew it. She had her life exactly the way she wanted it..So who killed her? Why? The society is very tolerant of such things here. She was actually popular.
Clint gets a call before daylight. There is a problem with a dead drunk. Clint asks why he should be bothered with some drunk. Sergio says not that kind of a dead drunk. There was a body. Oh. That kind.
Clint is having a beer with Indio friends in Chiriqui Grande as a full moon rises over the Caribbean. There is a red spot on the moon. A friend says it is a dead man's moon. Someone will die by the knife. Clint goes to Cusapín - where a body awaits him A man stabbed to death. What did it have to do with laundering money and some lawyers?
A hippie type girl is spouting bad poetry in the cantina on the comarca, then talks with Omar bout kiting in the morning. He warns her that it's a dangerous sport. She says when her time comes, it comes. Death doesn't wait for anyone. It certainly didn't wait for her. What was really behind her murder?
A group are talking about the corruption in the fiscalia an David. They say something has to be done about it. Those crooks are stealing the life savings from retired people. Then the corrupt judges and police are getting murdered. Seeing it is confined to those corrupt few, should they really try to find the killers? CAN they find them? too many people wanted that whole bunch murdered!
Clint is talking with a teacher who will finish university soon and take a job on the comarca. He asks if there are any problems. None except the dead aunt's. "Dead ants? What's the problem? Sweep them out. What? They were poisoned?" "No. They were strangled." "How do you strangle an ant? ... Oh, shit!"
A woman gets a dose of cyanide at a gourmet club dinner. She was the clingy needy type no one liked. She had problems with almost everyone at the dinner. It was the kind of thing where they avoided her, but not a killing kind of thing - but she was dead. Who and why?
A friend with Clint in Pedasi remarks that a local con man, who was living it up with the women, sure seemed to be living the easy life. Clint said living the easy way sometimes leads to dying the hard way. then the con man dies. The hard way. The REALLY hard way!
A man is dead tired all the time. He gets plenty of sleep, but has strange dreams and wakes up exhausted, sometimes with cuts and bruises. They decide he is a sleepwalker. He can stop it by taking medication. Then he dies in an accident on his ATV. While asleep. There is something else behind it. What does radioactive gas have to do with it?
Clint and family are dining at La Tipica in David. Two women are at the next table, one making remarks about the people there and being rude and demanding. she wrote a romance book and was making good sales. It had gone to her head. She made remarks about some others because her Spanish wasn't good. She misunderstood them. Tyna said she was making a grave mistake. She didn't mean it that way.
A man Clint meets is going to a poker game with two people from Tampa, Florida. Clint warns him that they are bad news and will cheat him. He goes anyway and is cheated, causing him to have to kill one of them. Clint uses disguises to find what they wanted and why.
Clint's nutty botanist friend discovers a new species of Anthurium. A bunch of botanists come to compete for who gets to name it. Someone tries to kill Dave. Someone does kill one of the scientists. It doesn't seem to be about the plant, but it does. Then Clint discovers what it's really about and must stop it.
A woman walks along the beach at Cusapín and meets the Faraday family. They becomes friends. she is running away from her business in Texas, but is becoming bored. They stay in contact. There has been some time with no communication, Then her body is found - only it is not her! Her son and daughter are there all of a sudden? A Colombian gangster is involved? What is going on?
English Dan went into the mountains, against all advice, to find gold. He said he would find it or die trying. People came from his business while he was in the mountains. He was shot. Clint helped an Indio friend bury him. Then he came walking into town with some gold he'd found.
An elderly woman is murdered in her home in front of a large safe. Clint is able to open the safe when he finds the combination in a recipe book It is filled with gold bars marked as coming from Mexico in 1939. She had lived on Isla Colón for 30 years and had millions of dollars worth of gold in her house? Where did it come from? Who knew about it after 75 years?
Clint and Tyna are visiting in Puerto Armuelles when an obnoxious tourist grabs at Tyna. Clint tosses him out of the bar. A friend says that one's headstone will read R.I.P. - for rest in pieces. Then the obnoxious jerk is found in his boat, dead. Cut to pieces. Who? Who were the three Che Guevaras? What were they doing in Puerto Armuelles?
Clint is talking to a man at the docks, then goes home to find that man's funeral is slated for tomorrow. It would seem that he would have mentioned it ten minutes ago! There was, however, a body. A body who was carrying the man's passport.
A woman who is vitriolic and demanding in a bar. She's being poisoned. Why would anyone bother with such as her? What is her real story? Clint investigates to find there is a lot more than what shows on the surface with this one. Did she murder her husband?
Sam has a funeral wreath delivered with a note that was, to say the least, threatening. What was it about? What did a couple of Colombians have to do with it? Was Sam unknowingly mixed up with money laundering?
Changes that have taken place in Panamá in my situation since 2012. Not much has changed. My friend has had several more schemes tried, but they are basically what was originally described. Nothing was done during the Martinelli presidency.
Clint meets a very sad man in the jungle. He says that death is walking beside him. Every time he finds a close friend that friend ends up murdered. What was behind it? What did a pedophile ring have to do with it?
Clint and friends are returning from a fishing trip. They are cautioned to go dead slow. The police are investigating two bodies found on a boat. Clint helps. Voodoo? What was behind it? How was it done?
A woman in the Golden Grill tells about being afraid because a stranger offered to walk with her out of a bad section of Bocas Town. She said she was scared half to death! Then she is murdered. That was the other half.
There is cultural interference on a restricted world. Z, Thing and Kurk investigate to find a band of escaped criminals. This leads to another place where there is a plot that includes murders and scams. The golems are used, so there is a good bit of comedy.
The crew on the vacation worlds investigating someone trying to take over casinos. Critic comment: Actually, a “meanwhile” for book forty two. TR gets to be a Pinnacle Class ship. The two (books) are funny as hell. Some of the antics of TR as the Pinnacle are beyond hilarious – particularly the description of the “accidents” that befall … but that would be giving it away.
Theron is attacked, it seems. There are Immins in another galaxy!!! That is going to be ended. Maita and the crew go to Jlockt to face this one. It is fortunate the crew know from past experience that the Immins are, at best, an insane race. Their fantasies can be used against them.
The Tlessonian berserker is back! This time heading to attack University and Hospital. It's up to it's old tricks. It has learned in every encounter with Maita. Maita has learned too. It is time they were rid of than insane military machine - but could they handle it?
A world that seems to be cyclic, denying progression past a certain point. It seems to be because of one family. Can Z be convinced that the only way to save this very good race is to eliminate that family? Is there a solution if they don't eliminate that family?
"Written" by Kurk. Kurk, Tab and Thing go to a world where someone is interfering in a near perfect society. A drug and a virus that could erase the minds of mammals is involved. They have to stop it. Kurk writes a projection at the end.
Z takes a vacation on a world in the Gothic stages while Maita upgrades its equipment. There is a strange influence there that is changing the society into a militaristic mode. Can Z find who or what is behind it and save this society? The golems are used, thus comedy.
Tab/TR and Kit/T6 go to a world where there is evidence of interference. The culture is as near perfect as they have found, but there seems to be a throw-back who is trying to send the race down the road to doom. Can the robots solve this one?
Kurk, Z and Thing go to a world where Heleemius has found what seems to be interference. It is a cyclic thing that is stagnating a good race. Can they find a way to break the cycle to allow the race to advance? This is a humorous work. The Golems are used.
