Mantha McEwan

Biography

Mantha McEwan was born in Canterbury, Kent, UK. She never could decide what to do with her life so drifted along doing very little of worth until she became pregnant at age 24, her daughter was the making of her as she would always tell her a bedtime story that she made up on the spot. Eventually Mantha started to listen to the characters trying to tell her their stories and wrote them down, the first few stopped talking before the end but eventually a story was complete and then after some time had passed Mantha decided to publish it and see if anyone cared about her people.
She worries sometimes that the voices in her head mean she is mentally unstable but until the doctors drag her away she will continue to listen to them and write their words down.
Every story she writes contains a cat because she misses hers.

Smashwords Interview

Who are your favorite authors?
Authors that I can read again and again are Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen, both of these set their stories in the Regency period but I like to remind people that Austen was writing contemporary works rather than historical as we see it now.
Another pair of authors I can read repeatedly are Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, I found these guys through their collaborative work 'Good Omens' and never looked back.
Ursula Le Guin was one I favoured as a teenager but I've not read the Earthsea books for a good few years now.
Pamela Belle has the honour of being the only author that I have managed to read when the story is in the first person, she also introduced me to the works of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester.
What is your writing process?
My writing process consists of one steaming hot mug of coffee and an open word doc. I close my eyes call the characters forward and then write as fast as they talk, after a couple of hours I stop to throw the stone cold coffee away and make a fresh one.
