Maria Arlandis

Biography

María Arlandis was born in Valencia, Spain. She studied Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia and one semester at Georgia College State University. Teaching Spanish to foreigners turned into her passion and after years of Spanish experience María Arlandis felt compelled to write a book focusing on everyday colloquial Spanish since she noticed that some of her students felt left
out not knowing expressions that the Spanish people use in casual situations.
María realized the importance of colloquial language when she lived in France and the United States. Despite knowing French and English "from the books" she found it difficult to wholly understand some of the expressions she heard every day and that she had not been taught in class. Discovering that expressions like "de puta madre" have a positive meaning very much surprises students
but without them they would lose many nuances of the richness of the Spanish language.
