Martha Bechtel

Biography

**** SSP Monthly Collections will be retired as of January 1st and new thematic collections will start showing up in 2016! ****

I write in a wide variety of lengths and genres, but I'm starting my eBook plunge with collections of my Saturday Story Prompts. Once I've gotten the hang of things the store will expand to include the rest of the content. (And possibly some non-fiction fun as well!)

NOTE: SSP collections are a 'tip jar' of sorts-- the prompts are all free to read on the website.

Smashwords book reviews by Martha Bechtel

  • Prevention Protocol on Dec. 14, 2012

The formatting has centered all of the text which makes it a bit hard to read. The story itself is a straightforward conversation about suicide, suicide motivations, and what can be done within the confines of workplace HR rules to monitor and alert to potential risks. Reads much more like an essay on the topic than a story. A little dry, but I did learn new terms about the types of suicide motivations, so I'm glad I read it. :)
  • The Burial on Dec. 14, 2012

Oddly, the story has very little to do with burials. But it's an interesting glimpse into a post-apocalyptic world filled with giant mutated animals, terrified humans struggling to survive, and a quickly shrinking family unit. The last 'twist' at the end came out of left field, wish there was a 'warnings' system for such topics. Squick. :p
  • Nomabduce on Dec. 14, 2012

Nifty little blackmail method-- although I can see it used for a lot more mischief than it was. Great ending! :)
  • Silent Echoes on Dec. 14, 2012

Fascinating magical systems and overall world-building. I'm really hoping there's more set in this 'verse, the protagonist and the necromancer are both people I'd love to see more of. Definitely an author I'll be reading more of! :)
  • The Gods Of Gods on Dec. 14, 2012

Very hard to read-- duplicated words, misspellings and odd sentence structure. Maybe it was written in another language and then translated to English? I think it was meant to be very metaphysical, but it comes across disjointed and hard to follow. :(
  • Whoops! -A Cautionary Tale on Dec. 14, 2012

Cute story dealing with one of those little harmless facts that time travel stories always trip over. Never drink and derive! ;)
  • Questing Beast on Dec. 14, 2012

Wonderful little story with just the right mixture of science fiction, humor, Arthurian legends, and proof that sometimes tilting at windmills /is/ the right answer. :)
