I received a free copy of this novel for an honest review, the only kind this old GI offers. "Gravy" sweeps a reader into the wartime US, that sent a Nebraska farm boy off to World War II as sure as it compelled a young band singer to swap her microphone for a wrench, building bombers for our troops. It's these two characters meeting, after the GI is wounded on the front and rehabbing back in the US that begins the attraction that sets them off on a life together on the discharged soldier's family farm in Nebraska. The challenges this couple faces with his wartime PTSD and her city-girl introduction to mid-1940s farm life in Nebraska that make the reader's engagement as real as it gets in a damn good book. The ride readers take in this novel is all the more compelling if their family members faced the same challenges in the real world. Here it is, folks, in this book that makes you laugh and cry and love just like they did. Highly recommend Faith Colburn's series, of which "Gravy" is the latest installment. I purchased the others today.
