I started writing in English after I stayed in Southern California for 7 months in 1976.

Colors

• Light Years Away on Feb. 10, 2012
  
  This short story reminded me of Shinich Hoshi, a Japanese short sci-fi story writer. Like Hoshi’s innumerable short short stories Light Years Away has a taste of wit and satire, and makes you think about the world where we are living now. Dave’s short stories always give you clear images and certain obscurity at the same time. The obscurity allows your imagination to slip into his well-structured small world. Your imagination, in turn, together with his somewhat simple fictional arrangement, creates a memorable impression in yourself. But do not take it too seriously. His stories are best fit for fun reading. Just try his other ones.

  This is a fiction built up on a lot of daily-life reality and real human feelings based on the author’s close study on the people of 21st century. As my first language is Japanese I first found it a little difficult to keep up with the quick changes of the time and places in each chapter. But scattered facts and scenes, words and images, people and their characteristics, desires and resignation, all are accumulated or refined toward the climax. By reading the first 44 chapters out of 67 you can adjust yourself to the future, and you will find yourself living with each of the characters in the latter half of the story. If you want a true satisfaction of reading, this one is it!

  A shade of sadness lingering through this short story somehow brings me a sweet happiness. You can read it with your little ones or you can enjoy it all by yourself. The beautiful pictures enhance your imagination.

  Honey. I remembered when I tasted horse chestnut honey for the first time. It tasted rather old and I didn't like the smell very much. But when eaten with toast or used for cooking, it created a perfect harmony, and I often found myself eating it directly from the jar. East Side is a book for those who like to relax, listen to good music, and wander through the past and a little future. It can make your life brighter without too many twists and turns. And If you like a little strange honey, I definitely recommend this one!

  Easy to read, but it's not just a Si-Fi entertainment. The story has a lot of everyday down-to-earth scenes woven into extraordinary emotional experiences. I have read only a few original novels written in English but this one is so far the best and the most influential to my life. It might change the future vision of your life, and even of your past. English is my second language, and I can safely recommend this book to everybody that has learned English at school. The story gives you freedom to "think" about whatever problems you have and eventually frees you from the attachment to them. In other words, you can escape from reality, but in a most exquisite way. Please read and find out in what way it is so exquisite!
