Matthew Drzymala

Biography

Matthew Drzymała was born in Manchester in 1981 and started to write seriously in 2011 when he took part in NaNoWriMo. Since then he has relocated to Liverpool, where he lives with his fiancee, Elaine.

Matthew attended creative writing classes in 2012 and 2013 and was nominated for an Adult Learner Award in 2014.
Matthew released his first works in 2013, the majority being stories in the Bumpkinton Tales series. His first paperback was released in May 2016, a collection of short stories and novella's entitled The Bumpkinton Tales: Volume One which is also available in eBook format.

He also runs the Laid-back Writers Group, which meets once a month at Central Library in Liverpool. This group is aimed at writers of any skill or experience, whether they be beginners or experienced, all are welcome. This group is aimed at being a place where writers can come together and write at their own pace and to help kick-start those who want to write but can't get past a first draft.

Matthew lives in a flat overlooking the River Mersey and, when the weather allows, sits outside and writes his stories in glorious sunshine, which isn't much, so mostly takes place at the kitchen table!

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I started to write in 2011, taking part in NaNoWriMo before taking a creative writing course in 2012. From then on I haven't stopped writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is called The Bumpkinton Tales: Volume One. It's a collection of short stories and novellas set in the fictional village of Bumpkinton. Each story is slightly different and the characters get stranger as the stories progress. There are a mixture of topics and themes in the book. Bittersweet is about new arrivals in the village who are opening up a shop, much to the displeasure of local busybody, Amelia Goose who has more than a few things to say about the 'townies' coming to the village.

Meanwhile, The Bachelor is about a Singles Night where an outsider comes in, believing he's a ladies man when half of the female population just think he's a giant moron.

There are 5 stories in all which are: Last Christmas, Bittersweet, The Bachelor, The Family Jewels and Albert's Christmas.
