Matthew Dieumegard-Thornton

Matthew Dieumegard-Thornton is a professional athlete who on the 19th May 2012 became one of the youngest British climbers and part of the youngest ever team to climb Mount Everest. After attaining his degree, Matthew set out in the pursuit of climbing Mount Everest which took him from the highlands of Scotland to the Himalayas in some of the most extreme environments on earth.

His book, Dare to Dream encapsulates every aspect of the journey to Everest, describing in detail the agony that is ultra high altitude mountaineering, the gruelling training which is required to reach such places, the necessary attributes needed to gaze out across the high Himalayas towards the curvature of the earth and the profound lessons that are learnt in such a hostile place.

Matthew is also a public speaker, delivering after dinner and motivational presentations, managed by iChallengeU. Matthew has presented at venues including the Royal Society of Arts (London) for clients including the BBC, Burberry, Carnstone, Marks & Spencer, Sky, Tesco and Yell/Hibu.

The 2012 Everest expedition was sponsored by Hibu (formerlly Yell) Group.
