I am not one to go out looking for paranormal romances. Although I have read a few and enjoyed them, my personal preferences are not in this genre. I also want to make clear that I am nearly 40 years old and am aware that young adult novels do not always connect well for me.
I had some issues with the book. Mostly they were at the personal preference end of the spectrum. I did note some grammatical issues outside of dialog. This was not an overwhelming issue for me, but it was noticed. I also found myself wishing for a broader range of wording; the same descriptive words came up too closely to each other for my taste. I would have liked to have seen about 30 more pages worth of writing (throughout) to flesh the story out a bit more. It often felt one dimensional. I felt as if things happened or things were accepted too easily. I really wanted to care about the characters. I longed for it, yet found myself too far removed from them.
But, I loved the twist at the end. Loved it. Brilliant! Also, I like the subtle and natural humor dispersed in the story.
Generally I give a book a "2" if I am unfulfilled by it and give it a "3" if I enjoyed it, yet do not desire to re-read it. Neither of these criteria really fit how I felt about the book. I was not satisfied with it, BUT have some curiosity as to what will happen in the next book. I ultimately decided to give it a "3".
