Merih Sumpter completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Marmara University in Istanbul with a major in English Language Teaching. She was hired as an ESL instructor at a state university in 2001 when she graduated. She received a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Scholarship in 2004 that allowed her to study and teach at the University Texas in Austin. Consequently, combined with her training, ESL teaching experience, and teaching Turkish as a foreign language to American students, she is motivated to pursue a graduate degree in foreign language teaching.
