Michael Jason Fox

I was born on September 11th, 1981 in Cambridge, Minnesota. Studying Fire Science at the age of 20 when the attacks on the World Trade Center/Building 7 happened, I was heartbroken and dropped out of college, enrolling in the school of hard knocks, going on to serve a four-year prison sentence for bank robbery. It was here where I developed my love for reading, writing, and playing music. Upon release, I moved to Minneapolis and went on to become a wilderness guide, personal fitness trainer, and a public speaker -giving over 100 presentations to at-risk youth. Temporarily relocating to California, I worked for Standford University’s Sierra Camp on Fallen Leaf Lake and lived in a cabin that John Steinbeck built. This is where I began the dream of being an author. After moving back to Minneapolis for the summer of 2013, I worked downtown and became disillusioned with society’s definition of success and the temptations of consumerism within the big-city life. Quitting my job and giving away my possessions, I left Minneapolis on a bicycle with the intent to follow the Mississippi River, camping along her banks while playing guitar for the people and writing a book. This was the beginning of The Fox Trails and magic has been happening ever since. After the trip, I worked under the author Tamarack Song in editing and book promotions, living in an intentional community up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin while studying Native Lifeways. The call of the wild sounded again during the summer of 2014 and I rode a bicycle from Minneapolis to Lake Itasca State Park to pay homage to the source of the river before embarking on a cross-country bike tour that would take me into the heart of the American spirit, through the Wild West, and all the way to San Francisco. These stories will be documented in book 2 and 3 of The Fox Trails trilogy. I’ll be wintering in Atlanta this year while continuing my personal evolution through travel and writing about my observations of nature and society.
