Married for 49 years, we had both worked in a variety of industries through our careers in New Zealand. Mike has worked in the Concrete Industry, Rag Trade, and Real Estate, in the areas of Sales and Marketing, General Management and more recently in Information Technology.
Vicki has worked in Education and Legal in a range of Administration roles, Recruitment and Human Resources Management, and most recently in Australian Real Estate.
Our son, daughter in law and seven grandchildren moved to the Sunshine Coast of Australia in May 2007 seeking new opportunities. A few months later we made the decision that we wanted to be a part of our grandchildren growing up and consequently made the move across the ditch as well.
The desire to share some of our experiences in life as we both continue to work has led to our first book, Over the Hill and Across the Ditch which has now been followed by the release of The Lynn's of Tennessee Ave in 2014 and our third book The Bellini's of Gifford Road in 2015 with several other projects lined up as we develop our plans to travel around Australia in our retirement.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The satisfaction from readers who enjoy the final story which often may not be what they expected
What are you working on next?
A book on Innovation, I found the text books and lecturers lacking when I attended varsity it is something I have always wanted to do
My wife caught me in a weak moment when she asked if I would write a book about her family, the Bellini's proved quite a challenge as many of the likely contributors are no longer with us. The unknown family history that evolved in Australia and the mystery that still surrounds the reasons for the name changes, from Burley to Bellini to this day we can still find no record of Ivan's birth.
The time had arrived to document the history of our family before the opportunity was lost, how did the Lynn’s and the Rose’s first arrive in New Zealand? How did they come to settle in the King Country, and why did they move to the city? The memoirs of my siblings as they were growing up, how each of their families developed, and the recollections of our children of their Parents and Grandparents
Kiwi born and bred, happily married for 36 years, leaving the country of their birth, their friends and family for a new country, new lifestyle, and the chance to watch their grandchildren on their journey through life. Over the Hill and Across the Ditch is a humorous view on the Australian way of life by Mike & Vicki Lynn
