Smashwords Interview

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I've always been a Kindle guy. I bought an original Kindle in 2008 (after waiting months for it to be in stock) as a wedding gift to my now ex-wife. I fell in love with it shortly thereafter and bought myself the DX. I loved the larger screen size. I felt like it made me read faster.

Nowadays, even though I'm glued to my iPhone and iPad, I still read on a Kindle paperwhite. There's just something about being able to read in direct sunlight (we spend our summers at the beach. My wife loves swimming, I love reading under an umbrella out of the sun).
Describe your desk
My desk is a monster. It's huge and has tons of stuff on it. I could honestly talk about it forever, because I'm so happy with it.

I'll start from my left to right (I wish I could put a photo in here to show you what it looks like!):
External hard drives connected to my Mac Pro (the cylinder one everyone calls the trash can)
My work laptop, a MacBook Pro sits on a riser stand, within reach.
My two main screens are a 24" Dell that sits in portrait mode to the left and my primary screen is an LG 34" ultrawide.
A 1080p Logitech web cam sits on top of the LG screen.

On the surface of the desk are:
A deck of cards, to keep my hands busy while I'm in meetings or just thinking.
A hardware dock, so I can switch between my home computer and work computer, sharing the same monitors, mouse and keyboard.
An Alexa Echo Dot
A Kinesis Freestyle 2 keyboard (it's split in two, very ergonomical)
An iPad holder.
An iPhone holder
A Belkin electricity monitor (it plugs into the wall and tells you much electricity something plugged into it uses. My whole desk setup uses $17+ a month in electricity!)
Logitech speakers
A Jabra Evolve 75 headset
A small leather square holder (about 8" square) that holds things like USB cables and some other junk)
A drum pad and sticks (I like to practice at my desk)
A pack of Wintergreen Altoids Arctic
A Yankee candle

And my favorite item: a vintage red rotary phone under a glass cake dome.

The backstory here is: in my "free" time, I run a web development company. One of my clients noticed me refrer to my office as the "Batcave" once. Their offices are all vintage and retro stuff, so she spent months finding the perfect phone and hand delievered it to me.

It sits on my desk as a reminder that help is just a phone call away. Whether I'm the one calling for help or I'm the one calling for help.
