Michael has studied literature and theatre at Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, San Francisco State University, and Portland State University, where he received his degree. In 2005 his play Rising was runner-up at Seattle’s Theatre Schmeatre’s Northwest Playwright Competition. In 2008 his first novel, 42, was published by Ooligan Press. Also in 2008 his short play Tongue, Tied was presented at The Humana Festival of New American Plays, which subsequently led to Samuel French publishing a collection of his plays.
