Lisa Jane Dyer
Lisa is a forty nine-year-old resident of Melbourne. She first explored the world beyond Australian shores in her early twenties. Quickly imbued with the travel bug, Lisa back packed around South America, travelled overland in Africa and the Middle East, and toured parts of Asia. Her career as a speech pathologist took Lisa to the UK from where she explored Central America, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Lisa’s travels strengthened her desire to contribute her speech pathology skills in developing countries. Successful in gaining the role of Speech Therapy Tutor at the Rehabilitation Technician’s Training School in Zimbabwe, her dreams were realized. After almost ten years living abroad Lisa returned home and commenced the task of settling into Melbourne life.
Travel, now fuelled by reunions with her many close friends scattered around the globe, remains a priority. Still attracted to better know the lives of those struggling to reach a ‘developed’ world Lisa continues to be drawn to the developing world, as Musikana witnesses, in her reunion with Zimbabwe.
Committed to peoples and countries having a voice, Lisa has continued her work in speech pathology along with a career in mental health. Lisa is committed to early intervention through programs such as CASEA (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service – CAMHS And Schools Early Action program) and KidsMatter Primary – a national mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative in primary schools.
Lisa’s love of travel is also developing through photography these days, ignited during the month spent on Hydra, the Greek Isles, where the bulk of Musikana was written.
