A gripping modern fairy tale
L.M. Brae has created a touching modern-day fairy tale orphaned teen Soraya Fawn, who is in the care of foster parents. However, at 18 years of age, they are no longer receiving support for her care, so they ask her to leave. With nowhere to go, Soraya meets super-rich Mateo Winston by chance and it feels like love at first sight. But when she is offered a chance to attend college, she realizes that it is only hers for the taking if she’s willing to sacrifice her principles.
I love the fairy tale element of this story—with the “forced” relationship, it has the feel of “Beauty and the Beast,” with the underlying element of entrapment. But in the end, it’s a story of hope and determination.
Brae’s writing is wonderful. She has a gift for vivid description and for bringing life into her multidimensional characters, especially Soraya. Plus, with all great romantic fairy tales, there is the promise of “happily ever after.” This is a fantastic, quick read. I couldn’t put it down!
