Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
A desire to be in control, I suppose. I had some experience with the current "traditional" publishing world. I had an agent and she worked hard for me, but was not able to find a publisher. I attempted to find another agent for a different book, and didn't get very far. With my third (first published) novel, I did a lot of research on how to publish myself and when I made the decision, there was no looking back. I'm all in.

I discovered that in centuries prior to the 20th, almost all writers were indie I like being part of that tradition.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the country near Chapel Hill, NC. The landscape certainly influenced me. The piedmont countryside is hilly and curvy. It does not give you vistas and long views. I want my writing to be like that--to draw you to the next page to see what comes next.

The town of Chapel Hill, a university town, is a place where stories are valued and people love to tell them.
