Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Seattle, WA. The neighborhood I grew up in, Mt. Baker, was upper middle class. There were a lot of doctors and lawyers. This influenced me to write books to help society because the dominant professions in my community help society function on all levels.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in at Bishop O'Dea High School. I wrote for the school newspaper, The Crossier, and entered and won a writing contest.
