Nancy McKibbin

I was born in the 1960s, in Montreal, Canada, but came to Australia when very young. I love travelling, going to the beach and gym. I also love teaching, reading and writing. I am the mother of three adult children and a grandmother to three young children.

I have always loved books since I first discovered them in the school's library and read voraciously Enid Blyton, Hans Christian Anderson and Oscar Wilde. It wasn't long before I started writing, sporadically, in my mid-teens. Later at university, I explored and loved the world of English literature.

As I am a primary school teacher, my philosophy is that all kids need to read, not just to build their reading and comprehension skills but also to provide fuel for their imagination- good imagination equates with empathetic, human beings with a creative mind that can be used to solve complex, future, world problems.

Smashwords Interview

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The warm sun that gently sweeps aside the night into a new day, the laughter of children and the love for those I hold dear.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1) The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde- the story will touch your heart and break it into a million pieces.
2) Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte- in the end, Mr Rochester is physically blind but at last can see what matters most in life.
3) War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy- it contains everything I love about a good book: History, the French invasion of Russia, Philosophy, human nature and the values we espouse and a bit of romance.
4) U.S.A by John Dos Passos- have things changed in America? I think not- a great book to reflect upon.
5) 1984 by George Orwell- a visionary writer whose visions have become reality- watch out world!
