How do you approach cover design?
Cover design starts with a metaphor, an strong visual idea that represents the core of the book. Even with good ideas, you still need the skills to design eye-catching covers, so I trawl free options first. Some artists offer free covers, but you need a discerning eye to make sure that the artist isn't giving away lemmings. Barring free options, I try to look at pre-made covers or low cost cover designers who provide good value for their talent. There are enough artists out there who fit the bill, with the explosion of self-publishing.
What do you read for pleasure?
