Othniel D. Forte


D. Othniel Forte is a Liberian author, educator, folklorist and public speaker. He was born unto the union of career educators, Rev. & Mrs. Reuben R.C.J. Forte Sr. His mother specialized in Early Childhood Education and has been teaching for over 35 years. His father was a minister, businessman and educator amongst other things. Both of his parents were active in local politics. His parents fight for social justice and equality greatly influenced the author. This is seen in many of his works.

He began writing at an early age. He was an ardent diarist then he took to writing poems for family members and loved ones. As his interest grew, he started expressing his surroundings and experiences in essays and short stories. During his time in exile, he longed for those wonderful stories his grandmother used to tell him. He soon found new ways to satisfy this need. He started making completely new scenes or characters and eventually entirely new stories.

Othniel completed his first book, The Liberian Public Administration System: An Introduction, in 2010. His second book, The Liberian Administrative System: The Legislature, came out in 2013, followed by his first novel, Famous Liberian Folklore later year. His other books include, Basis of Banking, The Liberian Financial System and Proverbs from Liberia. Before that, he had been writing poetry and short stories, many of which appeared in different print and online media outlets. He has spoken to several academic fora and is the head of the recently established Liberian Think Tank, Everything Liberia.

He and his family are currently based out of South East Asia where he works as an educator and continues writing.
