Pam lives in Delaware with her partner of 23 years, Janet and a pack of rescued animals. For many years, she worked in academic libraries, but due to disability brought on by multiple sclerosis, she now writes and edits from home using voice recognition software. This is her first published work, but she plans to continue telling Ms. Sophie's story so keep a look out for the next installment. Pam would love to know what you think about the story. Describe your desk
I am currently either in a hospital bed or a powerchair because I have chronic progressive multiple sclerosis so my available space is very limited. I use a small rolling hospital table which has my laptop, a plate of snacks and miscellaneous paperwork on it. My laptop includes all the writing tools I need, a dictionary, a thesaurus, my voice recognition program and pictures of my past rescue pups for inspiration.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, a very developed suburb of Philadelphia.I had difficulty making friends as a child and deep down, I yearned for the companionship of a furry friend. We had a dog when I was a very young but she passed before I really appreciated her. After that time, I always begged my parents for another four-legged companion but that didn't happen because of allergies until I was out on my own. with the help of an occasional allergy pill,I I've pretty much had a dog, or have been looking for one ever since then.
In the second part, we are introduced to the other four-legged members of the household from Sophie's perspective. We watch Sophie and Sparky develop a lifelong bond and have a lot of fun in the process. The humans also deal with some major health and psychological issues. Although Sophie had some difficulty explaining the different situations, she was always there to lend a helping-paw.
