Raymond Lloyd read philosophy, politics and economics at Exeter College Oxford where he graduated in 1956. He later became deeply interested in problems of human behaviour. From 1961 to 1980 he was on the staff of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at its headquarters in Rome.
