Akasha K Konkoly

Akasha K KONKOLY was born in Cairns, Australia, in 1979. She grew up on a farm in Victoria with the birds and bees, completed a law degree from Queensland, an Honours in Creative Writing from Adelaide, South Australia, and started a Masters in both Human Rights and Biodiversity before she was distracted by motherhood.

In her youth, she wrote for, edited, and managed a web project, Vibewire.net, that won a UN World Youth Summit award for community engagement.

Since being a mother she’s trained as a kids yoga teacher, an earthbag dome builder, as a shamanic “birthkeeper,” and most recently in stand up comedy.

After a traumatic first birth, and subsequent scarring, Akasha was told she’d never give birth naturally again. She made it her life’s work for the next five years to find how she could - and of course did, after approximately an hour of active labour and with no substantial injury or intervention.

Her intention is for women the world over to reclaim easy births, as she did, and for both men and women to live the lives of the most visionary, most courageous, most passionate calling.

Today, she lives on the Sunshine Coast with her two children, and dreams vast dreams. She has two collections of poetry - Liberating Tokyo, and Ocean in the Sky.
