Hello, earthlings! I'm an award-winning children’s author and scientist from London, UK.
I work in clinical research (developing new medicines) and I'm also studying for my PhD. I enjoy my science career but I also have a real passion for writing stories! I like introducing children to the wonders of science, especially reluctant readers. By introducing science creatively, I aim to spark their interest; allowing them to gain confidence with their reading. As a previous reluctant reader myself, I understand how hard it can be. But it’s all about making reading fun and interesting!
My young nephew Hayden influenced my decision to become a writer. I loved seeing his reaction when my sister Michelle first read one of my stories to him!
In my spare time, I love going to new places and I try to travel as much as possible. My partner Adrian and I absolutely love Scotland, especially the Isle of Skye.
My first picture book, Praxx and the Ringing Robot, won second prize in the ‘Picture Books 5 and Younger’ category at the Purple Dragonfly Book Awards 2017. The book trailer also won first place in the ‘book trailer’ category at the Royal Dragonfly Book Awards 2017!
And that brings us to now... I'm currently working on several new books. I’m developing my first short story, Engella, into a young adult novel. I have five books planned for a brand new series – The Chronicles of Engella Rhys.
I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I enjoyed writing them!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Zeeb and the Martians, a children's sci-fi story... I still have the book, its over 30 years old.
Considering I'm about to launch my first alien children's book I have a feeling it made a MASSIVE impact on me...
Life imitating art?
What is your writing process?
I usually start by making notes on my iPhone to develop the plot and structure. I then make longer notes on my PC about the characters and then start writing. I'm definitely meant for e-book publishing, I never use pen and paper!
Introducing The Lights of Time, the debut novel by award-winning author Paul Ian Cross. Loved by book bloggers and readers alike for its unique take on the time travel genre, the novel has been described as 'page-turning literary sci-fi that keeps you guessing' by bestselling author Karen Inglis. The novel has since been submitted to The Arthur C. Clarke Award for science fiction literature.
