Biography
I was born in the quiet little logging town of Quesnel, British Columbia. My folks (both city kids) were on an adventure of their own: homesteading a 5 acre parcel of timber! I remember vividly our simple life among the tall firs and wildlife. Bear, moose, and deer were a frequent addition to our family’s goats, chickens, and rabbits. There were plenty of hardships living without plumbing, electricity, or an indoor toilet, but I don’t know that I ever saw them that way…the ignorance of childhood can be a real blessing!
As a young boy, our family of 5 moved to Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley. Even though we were back in “civilization” our family still loved to pursue adventure! We would frequently escape to the beach or follow trails deep into the mountains. As a teen a new pattern emerged: going to Oregon’s High Desert. I can remember my first impressions of this dry juniper speckled landscape: yuck! Wow, was I ever ignorant! It didn’t take long for me to discover the true wonder, beauty, and mystery of this “diamond-in-the-rough.”
I have loved to write since I was a young child and all of these life experiences have fed into my storytelling. “The Sheriff” is the first of many books to come. It’s wispy trails, sun bleached canyons, and yes, even the poisonous snakes are all reflections of very real places. These are snapshots of my life (with ample creative license), cherished experiences poured into what I hope is an enjoyable tale.
Blessing has followed me over the years. I married my best friend, and through her we now have two more best friends in our lives. Being a husband, father to boys, and living in God’s spectacular Alaska have added even more for my imagination to work from. I can’t wait to share more of my stories with you!
