Patrick Love


Patrick Love is the Executive-in-Residence at Bowling Green State University. He is the former Vice President for Student Affairs at New York Institute of Technology. Patrick’s career in higher education has spanned managerial work in student affairs, academic affairs, and as a professor in college student affairs. His book Rethinking Student Affairs Practice has been identified in at least two professional lists as a “must read.” His blog, “Patrick Love’s Life” has also been identified as a “worthwhile” read for student affairs pros. His areas of scholarship include organizational culture, leadership and management issues in student affairs, and applying theory to practice. He has consulted with or spoken at more than 40 institutions and organizations. He is known for innovative approaches to management that encompass intellectual, social, and emotional integration, as well as a passionate commitment to student education and development. He is co-presenter of “Unconventional Leadership,” a professional development program that has been met with enthusiasm by audiences at the annual ACPA and NASPA conferences as well as organizations and campuses around the country.

Patrick earned his doctorate in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University and his master's degree in counseling psychology and student development from The State University of New York at Albany.

An inveterate goal setter and self-described “management junkie,” Patrick is always on the lookout for new and creative ways to maximize time and resources. He brings energy, enthusiasm and a sense of fun to his work and surrounds himself with interesting, passionate, and creative people who seek to challenge the status quo. Patrick is raising two teenage sons and his family serves as a catalyst for his drive and focus. He has varied outside interests including road racing (he qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon in 2014) and Ultimate Frisbee. He is a budding singer-songwriter who performed live at an open-mike night near his hometown of Maplewood, NJ.
