Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the North of England, near the edge of town. Our house had a garden and a school field behind it. I spent a lot of time playing outside. In my teens I went for walks down country lanes. I've always loved immersing myself in nature; it feels like home. That's what inspires me most. I still live in the area. I love the mix of rolling hills and woodlands in this part of the world.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
There are three great joys for me. One is the pleasure and satisfaction in the writing process. I need to be creative and express myself. I have always loved reading, so reading as research for my work makes me feel really lucky. I also love the feeling when I get responses from readers. It's great to know that my words have connected with someone and maybe made a difference in their lives, as other authors have done for me.
