In her debut novel, Greater Perspective, Michele Fenolietto explores the effect of power on the human psyche against a backdrop of science.
The set-up for Greater Perspective is science-fiction, but much like Audrey Niffenegger’s work The Time Traveler’s Wife, the sci-fi element is subjugated to the human interactions and emotional and ethical development of the characters. Fenolietto uses her characters to work out the difficulties and benefits that power brings to relationships--familial, public, private, and romantic.
The choices the characters make and the ways they each respond to the power they possess will certainly give readers something to think about and may well spark conversations about the practical effects of being suddenly thrust into a position of greater status.
