jack Estes is the publisher of this small press. It's been active since 1996, focusing mostly on poetry and fiction. In 2006, two new imprints were added: Caravel Mystery Books and Aequitas Books. Caravel is used primarily for mysteries (obviously) and Aequitas for non-fiction with a sociological or philosophical theme. That same year, a small press from Port Townsend, Washington, was resurrected and started working with Pleasure Boat Studio, as a division. This press, Empty Bowl, focuses on poetry and some prose with strong eco-consciousness. Pleasure Boat Studio is located in New York City, having moved from Bainbridge Island, Washington, in 2002.
Elihu Beard's Diary of 1849 represents a very personal view of America during its greatest period of transition and conflict. This remarkable young student of a Quaker family shares his thoughtful views on issues of his day, many of which still have pertinence today.
