Carl Spencer Krendel

I was born to two doctors in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America. 16 years later, I was writing professionally in high school. Today, 28 years later, I'm writing professionally, but not getting paid as much. I might go back to writing articles and essays so that I can afford to have a social life.

My life isn't on paper. It happens in 3D with very fine definition. I teach at a large university in Southeast Asia. My experience is kept deep inside. What I produce is the way that you can laugh in the dark, see a smile on your face while you loose a mortgage, or whatever it is that happens to you that you don't like.

Smashwords Interview

What is your writing process?
My writing process involves perspective followed by isolation. I try to first isolate what I'm writing about. I write it down. After I write the topic, I plan the content. Each character in fiction requires a special place in my mind. Those places are created by imagining a few human traits and how they fit together. This part is very time consuming. It takes longer than the actual writing of the stories. People and the dialogue which they create can be the most complex part of any writing. Writing happens after the characters, setting and plot are formulated. I outline extensively, for weeks to months, before writing. I typically spend the first four to eight hours of my days either completing outlines, character descriptions, or writing the dialogue, but the stages keep the product coherent.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The impact of the first story I read was that I didn't want to read. I stopped reading for years. Then, my friends, in 5th grade, told me about a few action, horror, and science fiction books they had read. After that point, I couldn't stop reading, but I also knew that I wanted to make something so entertaining one day. I was paid to write in high school, secretly, and in cash, by other students. Later, in college, I eventually found an employing newspaper that wouldn't get me beat up by government goons or their contractors. Newspaper assignments are dangerous when news is actually produced. I kept writing, for academic pay, which is always light, and now I teach English as a lecturer at a university. My light schedule (and light pay) keeps me writing during the mornings, and advertising during the afternoons. So, I guess that the first story I read helped me to delay the inevitable beginning of a career I know and love today.

Marriage could happen, but it will not be easy. A young couple, comprised of a single parent and a wealthy refugee from African conflict, come together against the hilarious backdrop of international intrigue. A coffee shop's patrons conspire in the background (or perhaps the foreground) while the marriage progresses and their efforts at societal supremacy clash hilariously with moral pretension.
