Prue Batten


An Australian who is a university graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Political Science and History and with post graduate qualifications in librarianship, in a past life she was a TV and Radio researcher/presenter with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Her first book was published in 2008 by in the UK.

She farms a woolgrowing and cropping property with her husband in Southeast Tasmania growing the superfine wool for which Australia in renowned.

Her books have been categorised as fantasy bordering on magical realism. But she prefers to think of them as fantasy ballads and her inspiration has always been the stories told by the travelling bards of old. The alternate world she has created has been described as 'a combination of the painfully real and the dreamlike escape.'
In 2012, Prue won a silver medal from the Readers' Favorites Book Awards for A Thousand Glass Flowers. This novel has been followed by The Shifu Cloth released just before Christmas in 2012.
She also writes historical fiction - The Gisborne Saga- the first of which was published in 2012. The second will follow in 2013.
